Week 4 Day 3 2011-07-07 20 Well I kept forgetting that I needed to do these so I didn't do them at a good time of the day. I was totally cold and had a few beers and a bagel and cream cheese right before I started doing the push ups. No surprise that my muscles were really tight and couldn't deal with the lactic acid buildup. I could barely finish the 4th set of 29. When my two minutes ended I struggled through 20, rested another 2 minutes and then came back and did the last 20. I'll repeat this workout next week, or maybe I'll repeat the whole week? It might be good to have some step-back time, especially since I'm going to lift some weights tomorrow. Total push ups: 160
Week 4 Day 2 2011-07-05 36 Total of 140 push ups. I was fairly certain I wouldn't be able to do it, but I did. Last set was extremely difficult. I tried extremely hard to maintain good form and recruit other muscle groups when needed to accomplish that goal. I think I did a pretty good job. At the end I started grunting and counting out loud to finish the last 10. Extra 30 seconds of recovery between sets was definitely key! We'll see how I do in two days. I'll have to do an extra 20 push ups, but I'll have a full two minutes rest between sets. We shall see!
Week 4 Day 1 2011-07-03 32 Just barely finished. What a difference between 120 seconds and 60 seconds! Total pushups: 120 At first I thought I might have gone a day early, but I didn't. I had two rest days between the last time, but my muscles were still sore! I'll probably have to repeat one of this weeks' days. Didn't happen today though!
Week 3 Day 3 2011-06-30 31 Even though I had 120 seconds between sets, I didn't have much left in the tank for the last set, got to 31. I'm not pushing my max as much as I was last year since I think that helped me hurt myself. I'm definitely still doing it to exhaustion, just not to collapse, not to where my form gets awful. I'm starting at middle of week three, so it's a steep curve. I'm not afraid to repeat days though. I might have to do week 4 day 1 a few times to complete it with only 60 second breaks, but that's OK. I don't think the first few weeks would've helped much at this stage. It seems the bulk of pushups start during week 3. 123 total pushups.
Week 3 Day 2 2011-06-29 36 felt a bit sore, but it was OK. I forgot how quickly the pushups ramp up! I'm using a stopwatch to time rest though, so I'm truly only taking the recommended time.
Week 3 Day 1 2011-06-27 36 Starting over! I think I'm stronger than when I started 15 months ago, but definitely lost a lot of strength since then. That's OK though, it's all about keeping at it over the years, never being afraid of fresh starts. I sprained my shoulder/back pretty badly from doing push ups too fast, so I have to remember to do them safely and not push too hard. Great start today though, looking forward to getting stronger the next few weeks. It takes little time, but lots of effort :)
Week 5 Day 3 2010-03-30 40 So I couldn't quite do the last 10, but the rest of the push ups went well. I did take 1-2 minutes at least in between all the sets, but I was still surprised at how relatively easy they were, until the last set. I might as well finish up this week and do the exhaustion test in two days to see how I do. Total pushups, 205! 20, 20, 24, 24, 20, 20, 22, 40, 15.
Week 5 Day 2 2010-03-28 43 Fell two short today on the last set, but for all the other ones I only took 45-60 seconds between sets, so a definite improvement. 19, 19, 22, 22, 18, 18, 22, 43, 2
Week 5 Day 2 2010-03-24 45 19, 19, 22, 22, 18, 18, 22, 45. Took less time between sets this time.
Week 5 Day 2 2010-03-19 35 I tried really hard to only take 45 seconds between sets, but I could tell after the first few that wasn't going to happen. I took 45 seconds between the four, then a minute, then two minutes, then 7 minutes before the last one, but it still wasn't enough time to get up to 45 like I was supposed to. I finished off the last 10 though to make the daily total 185. I'm going to try again in two days, but I'll try to keep the intervals close to 45 seconds again, so I might end up doing this day a few times, but that's OK since it's going to give me the endurance I need to get through 100. 19, 19, 22, 22, 18, 18, 22, 35, 10
Week 5 Day 1 2010-03-17 40 It was tough, but I feel my form is getting better. I still took a few minutes between all the sets. Did 170 push ups 36, 40, 30, 24, 40.
Week 4 Day 3 2010-03-13 40 Took lots of time between sets, especially the last one, but it says you can take more time if you need it! So I did 160! 29, 33, 29, 29, 40.
Week 4 Day 3 2010-03-11 35 Couldn't quite get there again. Still took a fair bit of time between sets, but less time than last time and I think that my form was a lot better. Completed the last 5 push ups in an extra set to bring my total to 160.
Week 4 Day 3 2010-03-09 34 Didn't quite get there on the last set. I did 29, 33, 29, 29, 34, 6 for a total of 160 push ups. 154 in five sets. I'll try again on Thursday.
Week 4 Day 2 2010-03-06 36 My triceps felt sore from something I did during my long run yesterday - since I stopped and occasionally used some of those weird Turkish exercise machines. Because of that I was worried I wouldn't be able to do the push ups, but I totally did! 140! I barely got the last 36, but I definitely felt stronger than last time and knew I could get the last one. I tried to do one more, but it didn't happen. On Tuesday I'll try to do 160!
Week 4 Day 2 2010-03-04 34 So I finally hit the wall and couldn't get to the max set. I got to 34 and I really wanted to get those last two, but I just couldn't and when I went down for 35 my arms gave out. So I stopped at 34. Caught my breath, and did the last two. Still did 140 total push ups today (last set was 34 + 2). I'll repeat this day on Saturday.
Week 4 Day 1 2010-03-02 35 Today was also 120 push ups scheduled, but it was a lot easier than the 120 on Saturday! I managed to do a few more than required in the max set. I probably could've eked out another one or two. Hopefully my muscles recover enough to do 140 in two days! Took several minutes between sets though. Did 123 push ups total.
Week 3 Day 3 2010-02-28 28 Barely squeaked by in that last set. But I did it! I didn't think I could, but I totally did. 120 push ups total.
Week 3 Day 2 2010-02-25 25 Today was rough. Did 100 push ups total, but it was a huge increase from Tuesday. Saturday is supposed to be 120 push ups. We'll see if that will happen.
Week 3 Day 1 2010-02-23 22 Did my push ups after a 7 mile run today. They're definitely harder after a run. Still managed to get through without too many problems, just didn't go as far over the max as I usually do. Max was at least 20 today and I did 22. Total: 81
Week 2 Day 3 2010-02-20 30 Took my time in between sets and did great! Total number of push ups was 91!
Week 2 Day 2 2010-02-18 25 Pushups were alright today. I realized that I hadn't been taking my full time between sets, so when I started taking the full 90 seconds it started going better. Did a total of 79 push ups today.
Week 2 Day 1 2010-02-16 21 Seemed a little harder today, maybe it was because we did it first thing in the morning, or maybe I hadn't had enough water. 69 push ups today.
Week 1 Day 3 2010-02-13 24 Today was good. Feeling strong. For the first 3-4 sets I definitely didn't take the full 2min rest that was allotted. Still managed to squeak out 24 pushups at the end! Total pushups: 68.
Week 1 Day 2 2010-02-11 17 Made a mistake and accidentally did week 2 day 2: 14,16 12, 12, 17. Still got it done though! Week 1 day 2 only called for 50 pushups, by I did 71!
Week 1 Day 1 2010-02-09 21 Solid start. Me and my girlfriend are going to get there!
